Karamara Hospital

The initiator of our help for cleft patients from the Somali ethnic group is Mohamed Ali. Born in Somalia, he left his home country in 1988 and founded the aid organization Somalia Medical Care e.V. in Heidelberg in 2013. V. (Somcare). We

helped support the construction of the Somcare Hospital, which opened in March 2022 in Garowe, the capital of Puntland in northeastern Somalia. The aim was to establish a permanent project location there. This was successful: Initially, there were doctors from our project countries Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan who traveled to Garowe and Jijiga as volunteers and provided hundreds

of operations for Somali cleft lip and palate patients at Somcare Hospital and Karamara Hospital, but since February 2024 Dr. Samater, a local doctor trained by our highly experienced surgeons, is permanently on-site in Jijiga. With the help of our committed partners, we hope to be able to further expand our help for cleft lip and palate patients in the Horn of Africa.
